Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
Our address is 925 Iowa Street, Suite O, Lawrence, KS 66044. We are located in the Hillcrest Shopping Center near 9th and Iowa. We are across from Royal Crest Lanes and right next door to Munchers Bakery!
What styles of dance do you offer?
Our teams learn routines in Jazz, Novelty, Prop, Pom, Contemporary, Lyrical, Tap, and Hip Hop.
Do you have a recital?
Yes! We have an annual Spring Show (recital) in late May/early June at the Lied Center. We also march in the Maple Leaf Parade in Baldwin City, Kansas in October.
What should my child wear to class?
Your daughter should wear something that is comfortable for dancing. She may wear dance attire such as a leotard, dance skirt, biketard, tights, etc. Stretchy play clothes are also acceptable for our youngest dancers as long as they are form fitting. Form fitting clothes are best in order to see proper body alignment. Spandex shorts are popular, especially with our older teams. Please do not wear jeans or jean shorts to class. Bare midriffs/crop tops are not allowed. No jewelry, except for post earrings are allowed. Dangle earrings are a safety hazard. Gum is not allowed.
Please pull back hair into a ponytail or a bun. Hair worn down can be distracting, is a safety hazard, and often disrupts the choreography and creates a bad habit of messing with it when dancing. This also applies to bangs that are long enough to cover your daughter's eyes.
What SHOES DOES MY CHILD NEED for class?
This year preschoolers wear ballet shoes and tap shoes. Kindergarteners need jazz shoes and tap shoes. Girls in 1st grade and up wear jazz shoes. You can find the shoes and tights your daughter needs at shopnimbly.com/dazzlers. You may also purchase dance wear on the same website, but those exact leotards/skirts/shorts are not required.
Can I watch my child's class?
Parents will drop their child off or wait outside of their dancer's class in the lobby area. Children are often shy when starting a new activity and though it may take a class or two, they usually become acclimated quickly. We find that students perform better when their parents are not in the room. Our younger dancers usually have class in our smaller studio, which has large viewing windows. Parents can watch from these windows! Sometimes you may find that the curtains on these windows are closed. We close the curtains if dancers are too distracted by the people in the lobby.
What is your inclement weather policy?
Dazzlers typically follows the Lawrence Public Schools USD 497 when canceling for inclement weather. We will notify you if Dazzlers is closed through email. We will also post it on our facebook page.
Are you closed on holidays?
We follow the Lawrence Public Schools USD 497 calendar when closing for holidays. We are closed for Thanksgiving break, spring break and winter break. There IS NOT class the Tuesday the week of Thanksgiving this year since USD 497 will be out the entire week. We do not close on the days Lawrence schools are out for parent-teacher conferences, etc.
Does Dazzlers prorate tuition?
Dazzlers does not prorate. Tuition is divided up into 10 monthly payments. Therefore, monthly tuition is the same whether it is a short month or a long month. Tuition is due on or before the 1st of each month. You can read more about tuition on our register page.
What other costs are there?
Girls new to Dazzlers will pay a $20 new student registration fee, as well as monthly tuition.
Depending on their age, girls need jazz, ballet, and/or tap shoes (see shoe question above!) for class and performances.
All girls need tights for performances. You can see shoe and tight pricing at shopnimbly.com/dazzlers. You must create an account to see prices.
Girls 3 years old-8th grade will purchase 2 costumes (typically around $65 each) and girls in high school will purchase 2 costumes.
Girls in 6th grade and up usually purchase earrings to go with their costumes. They are typically $12.
The yearly Dazzler t-shirt is required to participate in the Maple Leaf Parade. It is typically $15. Most girls purchase a shirt even if unable to attend the parade.
There is a Spring Show fee (1 per family) for our annual Spring Show at the Lied Center. In 2022-2023 it was $72.
There are optional costs such as tuition for optional Spring Show Groups, purchasing an ad in the Spring Show program (part of our fundraiser), and purchasing other merchandise such as a Dazzler jacket or bag.
Do you have an attendance policy?
We do not have an attendance policy, but it is extremely important that dancers miss as few classes as possible. When a student misses a practice, it affects their entire team. It is very hard for a team to practice and make progress when a dancer is missing. Please also try to be on time. When students are late, they miss the warm up and stretching at the beginning of class, which is essential for safety and optimal performance.
The only individual award we give in Dazzlers is our attendance awards. At the end of each year, we give out attendance awards at our recital dress rehearsal. We give an award for "Perfect Attendance" and "Only Missed Once."
Do you have a program for boys? What about classes for adults?
At this time we do not offer a program for boys or adults.
